Firmware - This little feature allows the wii console, throuh the WiiConnect24 service to receive updates periodically.
Hardware - The expansion ports allow extendibility to the Nintendo Wii. This opens up a whole new world for the Wii gamer.
Another great contributor is the top level menu interface that accompanies the Wii console. The Wii menu has four pages which display the recent time and date the four pages have a grid that is around 4x3. The applications (better known as the Wii channels) on the pages are located inside the 4x3 grid. The pages are navigated through the use of the Wii remote. The Nintendo Wii has 47 Customizable slots and users are given the choice to move the channels amongst these. The only channel not able to be moved is the disc channel.
You will find 3 different types of channels on your Wii system:
Pre-loaded Channels
These channels include; Forecast & News channel, Photo channel, Disc channel, Mii channel and finally the Wii Shop channel which includes the WiiWare, Virtual Console and the Wii channels. These channels allow you to enjoy the Wii games and also allow you to play all the Nintendo Game Cube Games. You can listen to some news & weather forecasts, create your unique avatar, download games & other software or you can view photos.
Downloadable Channels
These channels include; Check Mii Out & Mii Contest channel, Fortune Telling channel, Telivision Friend channel, Internet channel, Everybody Votes channel and finally the Nintendo channel. These channels allow the user to share their Mii & enter them into popularity contests, view fortunes, watch available television programs, import digital photos and of course you can surf the internet.
Additional Channels
These channels include Wii Speak channel, Band Brothers Speaker channel, Daigasso channel, Mario Cart channel and finally Wii Fit. These channels allow the user to chat online, connect a game to the Nintendo Wii console, install the Mario Kart and Wii Fit.
